City planning is an often overlooked but critical aspect of every community. As a city grows, it’s important to have policies and plans in place to ensure forward-thinking development that enhances rather than detracts from quality of life.
Elk River’s Planning Department is tasked with helping the City Council implement a comprehensive city plan that was adopted in 2013. The plan is a guide for future growth, redevelopment and improvement efforts.
The Planning Department works collaboratively with city departments to ensure development is consistent with the long-term vision of Elk River as a safe and environmentally sustainable city with distinct character, strong neighborhoods and abundant recreational opportunities.
