In 1997, the Minnesota Environmental Initiative chose Elk River to be held up as a leader in renewable energy products, services and technologies. Since then, it’s been living up to the nickname “Energy City.”
The city developed an ambitious action plan with the goal of becoming the most energy efficient city in Minnesota by 2024. Elk River is an advocate for green building, has a micro loan program to encourage companies to create green jobs, and has resources for individuals and organizations wanting to reduce their environmental impact.
Elk River has become a hub for energy efficient technology innovation and renewable energy manufacturing.
