Why tell your friends about your hunt for a new job?
One, your friends will go the extra mile to lend a helping hand. Two, when your friends know what type of work you’re looking for, they can help spread the word. Three, your friends can introduce you to others working in companies that may have job opportunities. Bonus: There’s always a chance that one of your friends has a job opening in their company.
Take these action steps.
Build a list of companies you would like to work for. Start by including companies you have heard good things about or companies you have done business with. For example, CareerOneStop's Business Finder data tool contains contact information for nearly 12 million employers – and you can use that information to learn about current openings. If you want to work in a certain city or region of Minnesota, attend career fairs and read Local Look blogs for specific regional labor market information.
