Thunderstruck Exteriors Breaks Ground in Elk River

October 9, 2024

Expanding Operations with a Focus on Quality and Insurance Restoration

The Elk River Economic Development Authority is proud to announce full-service general contractor Thunderstruck Exteriors’ expansion into a new headquarters at the corner of 171st Ave and Twin Lakes Rd within Natures Edge Business Center. The city facilitated the land sale in February, and the groundbreaking took place in early August, marking a significant milestone for the company.

A New Chapter for Thunderstruck Exteriors

Thunderstruck Exteriors, founded by Dave Nelson in 2009, has its roots in Elk River. "I started my company out of my basement during the economic crash," Nelson shared. "Despite the tough times, I knew Thunderstruck would succeed because of hard work and our commitment to serving the community." Over the years, Thunderstruck Exteriors rented space in Anoka and Ramsey, but as the company grew, it became clear that a larger facility was necessary to accommodate more projects.

Nelson’s connection to Elk River runs deep. "We moved to the Park Point area in 2008 and quickly realized how friendly the neighborhood was," he said. “We’ve raised two children in the Elk River school system, and my daughter plays on the 10U Softball Team.”

The new facility will feature a 9,100-square-foot warehouse and office space, providing ample room for Thunderstruck's expanding operations. Thunderstruck's move into Natures Edge Business Center aligns with Elk River's strategic economic growth plan, attracting businesses that bring expertise and jobs to the community.

The decision to bring Thunderstruck’s headquarters back to Elk River came after Nelson found a property while driving around in March 2023. "I saw a lot for sale, but there was already an offer from an out-of-state company. I decided to make an offer anyway, hoping my ties to the community would stand out," Nelson explained. After numerous city council meetings, his offer was accepted in November 2023, and Thunderstruck Exteriors officially closed on the property in February 2024. Construction began in early August, and the new facility is expected to bring even more growth and opportunity to the area.

Specializing in Insurance Restoration

Thunderstruck Exteriors' specialty lies in insurance restoration. When areas are designated as catastrophic by the insurance industry due to storms, Thunderstruck steps in to help homeowners repair damaged properties; with experience handling hundreds of claims, Thunderstruck's team is well-versed in navigating the complexities of insurance settlements, which sets them apart from regular contractors.

“We’re not just another contractor,” Nelson explained. “Our expertise is in maximizing insurance settlements to ensure homeowners get the full value they deserve. This is a specialized field, and we pride ourselves on being a step ahead when navigating the insurance process.”

A Strong Future for Elk River and Thunderstruck

As Thunderstruck Exteriors prepares to expand its operations in Elk River, the company is poised to bring high-quality service and local employment opportunities. With its specialization in insurance restoration and commitment to excellence, Thunderstruck Exteriors is a welcome addition to Elk River’s growing business community.

As Nelson concluded, “We look forward to calling Elk River our new home and serving the community for years to come.”
