Decking the streets: A new look for Christmas at the City of Elk River
December 6, 2021
This holiday season, a bright and beautiful Christmas is on the horizon for the residents of the City of Elk River, as decorations get underway throughout downtown. And what better way to usher in the festive season than little wreaths adorning the streets and gateways of the city - this year, the City of Elk River, in partnership with DERBA has made efforts to beautify the town with wreaths decorating light poles. With its circular shape, the Christmas wreath, a decorative arrangement of foliage or flowers on a ring-shaped base makes it a representation of eternal life.
DERBA, or the Downtown Elk River Business Association, takes pride in the activities of the downtown area of the City of Elk River and works towards helping to beautify the area, especially during special occasions and the festive season. This year, DERBA has partnered with the City of Elk River Housing and Redevelopment Authority in its efforts to make the holiday season more joyous and beautiful for the residents of the town. The highlight of the season is the addition of lighted holiday wreaths to the light poles on Main Street and Jackson.
Tamara Ackerman, Chairperson of DERBA states that there are many events planned for downtown celebrations this year. “Events downtown include Santa in The Park and the annual Tree Lighting Event, both of which take place on December 4th this year. Santa will be there between 2 pm and 5 pm, followed by Mayor John Dietz flipping the switch for the Tree Lighting event at 5 pm. There will be carolers during the tree lighting event and photo opportunities during both of these events”, she says. Both DERBA and the City of Elk River are being helped by the Elk River Municipal Utilities for the lighting up of the holiday wreaths on the light poles.
Tamara goes on to add, “ We are excited to help make this holiday season more beautiful, and we hope that the members and residents in our community will enjoy the added beauty that these lighted wreaths will bring to the downtown city of Elk River this holiday season. A special thanks to both, the City of Elk River HRA and Elk River Municipal Utilities for helping to make this happen.”
The wreaths have been put up in the downtown area and will stay till January 2022.
