HOM Superstore to Replace Oakdale Multiplex

Now that big screen releases stream straight to our homes, consumers are apparently more likely to leave the house to buy a comfortable recliner than to visit a movie theater.

And so it goes in the aftermath of a pandemic that devastated the theater industry: HOM Furniture snapped up the shuttered Vision 20 Movie Theatre building in Oakdale and plans a 155,000-square-foot retail complex in its place.

HOM revealed Wednesday that it will add a 60,000-square-foot second level to the 98,000-square-foot theater building. The megastore will feature several of the Coon Rapids-based retailer’s brands: HOM Furniture, DOCK86, Sleep Express, Seasonal Concepts Patio, and HOM Floors. Unlike similar stores in Little Canada and the newest in Bloomington, this location will not include the higher end Gabbert’s, which HOM acquired in 2008.
