Join Us on Giving Tuesday and Support Local Charities
November 30, 2020
Tomorrow, December 1st, is Giving Tuesday, a day where people throughout Elk River, and the world, donate to the causes they are passionate about. This global day of giving is all about community togetherness. It follows a period of thanksgiving and offers us an opportunity to give from our abundance. Giving Tuesday encourages us to look beyond the busyness of the holiday season and to consider those in our community who may need our help and support. Many local and global charities stand in the gap to be there for those in need, and they need our help now more than ever before.
Organizations Making a Difference In Elk River
There are many charities in our community who are making a difference in the lives of children and the elderly, feeding those who cannot afford food or working to protect animals or our environment. Most of these organizations depend on donations and volunteers to support their operations and ensure they can deliver on their mission. This Giving Tuesday, we encourage community members to learn more about local charities and non-profits like the ones below.
- Elk River Lions Club
- Boys and Girls Club
- CAER Food Shelf
- Three Rivers Community Foundation
- Elk River Rotary Club
- Friends of Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge
- Open Doors for Youth
- Guardian Angels Senior Services
- Elk River Area Special Olympics

Reasons to Support Local Charities
Charities or non-profits are a vital part of our local and national economy. They represent 5 percent of our GDP. Nationally, non-profits create over 14 million jobs and pay around $635 billion in annual wages (McKeever, 2016). This is remarkable, but it is only part of the story.
In addition to creating jobs, local charities and non-profit organizations do a lot to support our quality of life. The impact of charitable organizations is felt in our strong sense of community. Without non-profits, the world would be a much darker place. They help to make Elk River a great place to live and raise a family. Local charities ensure that if anyone in our community needs a little help, someone is there to lend a hand.
In addition to all of these positive impacts on our community, when you give to non-profits and charitable organizations, you teach your children the importance of generosity. As a benefit to your own income, you could even receive a tax deduction.
Celebrate Giving in Elk River
By celebrating giving, we are also celebrating the power to bring about change. Many have suffered as a result of COVID-19, giving helps to combat negative effects of the pandemic. Every dollar donated to local charities on Giving Tuesday is money that is staying within our community and working to directly help our friends and neighbors. We encourage you to join others in Elk River on Giving Tuesday and throughout the holiday season and year by making a donation to your favorite charity.
